Montlake - 2021 and Way Beyond by William Goodrich Bellman Chapter 44 - Progressive Parties |
In grades six through eight, we held progressive parties twice a year. It usually started at the home of a school-chum down by the Montlake Bridge, then progressed south. At each house we visited we would first play some kind of game, then be served one course of the meal. Soup in the first, salad second, then the main course third, and dessert in the last home. The food was always very good, as each mother tried to outshine her friendly neighbor. These were fun get-togethers which gave us a chance to get acquainted with fellow students, who we normally saw only in the classroom.
The last party I remember was just before graduation in 1926, and started at Bob Vandewall's, then to Corinne Baker's, Marjorie Calhoun's, my home, and finally, dessert at Constance Turner's.
