Hello and welcome to the Montlake Forum, the official online discussion group for the Montlake Community Club. The community club’s web site may be found at http://montlake.net. There, you may find archives of the Montlake Flyer, our community newsletter, and a great many links and other information relevant to the community.

If any of what follows is confusing, please email the Montlake webmaster, Jonathan Dubman, at webmaster@montlake.net. He will be happy to explain how this works and answer your questions.

Anyone may read the contents of this discussion group on the web without officially signing up by viewing the page http://groups.yahoo.com/group/montlakeforum. Note there are options to see each message individually or to see a whole bunch at a time using the "expand messages" option.

You will need to sign up as a member of the group in order to receive the postings via email, or post a message yourself. If you are not already signed up, you may do so by emailing montlakeforum-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. However, signing up that way will not allow you to opt out of receiving every message in email. You may prefer to read everything on the web. For greatest flexibility, sign up via the web by visiting http://groups.yahoo.com/group/montlakeforum/join. This requires you to provide a Yahoo account, or create a new one free of charge.

Once you are signed up, you can send messages to the group by emailing montlakeforum@yahoogroups.com.

All those who live, work or have an interest in the Montlake community are invited to participate in the discussion. We are excited by the possibilities that online forums offer to disseminate timely information, promote healthy, ongoing discussion and strengthen the bonds of our community.

The forum will be run in keeping with the bylaws adopted by the MCC board of trustees on March 7, 2001. The bylaws may be found at http://montlake.net/mcc/bylaws.asp#web. This is the first online forum for Montlake, but there will surely be more in the future that cater to special interests.

Keep in mind that the printed version of the Montlake Flyer is still the place for official announcements of club resolutions and similar activity as set out in the bylaws.

Though a consensus may often emerge, Montlake will surely have a diversity of opinions on many topics. The board urges all participants to respect others’ opinions, keep all discussion civil, and, of course, avoid descending into name-calling or personal attacks. To quote from club’s official policy, "contributors to any such lists shall maintain responsibility for their own submissions. The board shall exercise its own discretion if it is determined in any case that this public service is being used inappropriately."

Unless you post a message, your email name is not visible to anyone else, except the webmaster, who is committed to maintaining your privacy. If you do post a message, your email name will be visible to others who have signed up, but it should be concealed from the programs on the Internet that send out mass mailings of junk mail ("spam"). Yahoo groups are designed to hide the email addresses from non-members. If you have a technical problem or question, if you need to take back a message you posted, or if you feel you have been wronged in any way, pleased get in touch with webmaster@montlake.net who will address your concerns under the supervision of the MCC board.

If you have signed up with a Yahoo account, you may visit the following page to modify your subscriptions: http://groups.yahoo.com/mygroups. On that page, if you click on "montlakeforum", and then click on "Delivery Options" on the right, you can elect to receive each and every email to this group, or to receive daily summaries, or not to receive any email at all, in which case you can follow the forum on the web without having each message clog up your inbox. No matter how you choose to receive your email, archives will be kept on the web at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/montlakeforum. There, you can see what transpired before you joined the discussion.

If you elect to receive the messages as email, Yahoo reserves the right to append an small advertisement at the bottom of each message. While we would prefer if that weren’t the case, that is the way Yahoo supports this otherwise free service.

If you do not wish to belong to montlakeforum, you may unsubscribe by sending an email to montlakeforum-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com.

Thank you for your interest in the community. We look forward to your contributions!
