Montlake Business District Development Project: Community Meeting – Tues, July 26th

July 20, 2016 by gehrkenathalie 3 Comments

Logo-Design-Concept-3Can you envision a better Montlake business district? Join your neighbors and give your input on exciting plans for the future of Montlake on Tuesday,  July 26 (6:30 pm) at the Montlake Community Center Tudor Building. At the meeting, Montlake Community Club leaders will introduce the KPG consultants who’ll explain the Business District Development project, funded by the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods.

Paul Fuesel

KPG’s Project Lead, Paul Fuesel, and Liz Gibson will show and tell, answer your questions, and invite your ideas on what you’d like to see in the Montlake business district from Uptown (The Montlake Blvd Market at 520) and south through Downtown (to Boston St.). These folks are professionals in urban design, landscape, and architecture so they understand town visioning. (Check out their past projects at www.kpg.com)

Be there early next Tuesday (6:15) for a lively musical warm up by Montlake’s own Mother Pluckers Ukulele Band. Then join your neighbors in learning and contributing to this Business District Development planning. With all that’s happening in and around Montlake these days, we need to be actively influencing what gets done to and for our community. This planning project can help in coordination of the SDOT Phase 3 reconstruction on 24th Ave. E., the Neighborhood Greenways project, and maybe even the next phases of WSDOT 520 Bridge construction. Join your neighbors the 26th.

All Montlake Community Meeting
Tuesday, July 26, 6:30 p.m. Come early for music!

MCC June Meeting

May 15, 2010 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Our last General Meeting before our summer break will end the year just as we began it, with the SR520 Bridge Rebuild.

We had an incredible turnout at our last General Meeting to address WSDOT’s announcement of the preferred alternative for the west side.  The design plans we were given to review at the meeting were more renditions than technical and Jonathan did a great job, as usual, in explaining the plan to us.

You had far more questions than we were able to answer or even hear, so we have asked WSDOT to return.  Ethan Bancroft, WSDOT Communications, will make a presentation and will answer your questions and take your comments.

When the presentation is over and everyone has been given the opportunity to speak, we need to determine not only the components of the plan we cannot live with but also we need to have viable suggestions for change.

MCC May Meeting: SR 520 Update

May 10, 2010 by webmaster Leave a Comment

The next Montlake Community Club General Meeting this Wednesdsay will be focused on 520 options.  Please note the start time of this month’s meeting is 7:00 p.m. – because of this issue’s importance to the Montlake community, we are starting the meeting half an hour early to allow additional time for presenters and questions.

Help us develop our response to the “Preferred Option” that the Governor just presented.  We need to hear from you; all of Montlake has a stake in this.

Jonathan Dubman will provide us with a clear picture of how that option impacts Montlake and what parts of it are an improvement.  Bring your questions.  We will have large diagrams for you to look at.

Fran Conley, Chair of the Coalition will share her ideas for solutions to the Current Preferred Plan and will field your questions.

Jim Harper will talk about the option of using barges rather than trucks on the haul routes.  We’ve been told it isn’t feasible, and Jim thinks it is.

Jon Decker will share the Strategic Plan for Montlake and ask for your input.  He will also share where we are with the Historic Designation Process.  I hope to see you there.

Please note that this meeting will be at the Montlake Community Center, not MOHAI as planned earlier.

________
The Montlake Community Club meets on the second Wednesday of every month (except July and August) at 7:30 p.m. at the Montlake Community Center on 1618 East Calhoun Street.

MCC April Meeting: Board Elections

April 13, 2010 by webmaster Leave a Comment

April 14th is the designated Annual Meeting when the MCC Board makes a Report of the Club. Board Members will not only update you on their committee work, but will include some proposed changes to the Club Bylaws and a preview of our new website. Your questions and comments are appreciated and will be used to guide us in the coming year.

The Annual Meeting is also when we hold our Board Elections. This year we will be electing a new President, Secretary and three Trustees.

Montlake has a unique reputation as an activist community. When you hear the Board Members speak, you will get a glimpse of what that means. Over the years, the Board has taken the lead in guiding not only the Montlake Community, but also Seattle to make decisions that we all benefit from. We are right in the middle of one of those epic moments for Montlake and need your participation.

The Board functions best when it comprises new members with fresh perspectives along with the Montlake veterans. Please consider giving Montlake your experience and time. You can contact me or any Board Member with your questions or interest in a position.

I had lived in Montlake only five years when I became President. I knew very little about the community other than the Business District and my immediate neighbors. I had much to learn and many of you were my tutors. You took the time to meet with me over coffee at Fuel or in your home and answer my questions and give me some history and your advice. I quickly learned that it was you that had made my community a choice place to live and I needed to reciprocate. It has been both a rewarding and challenging journey.

Anita

Minutes from MCC General Meeting 1/13/10

February 16, 2010 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Anita Bowers opened the meeting at 7:30, followed by Jon Nelson’s Treasurer’s report.  Anita announced that there will be one more delivery of the Montlake Flyer in a paper version in addition to the online publication.

The balance of the meeting time was given to the WSDOT management team, with a preface given by Barbara Gillerman, legislative work group administrator regarding the 520 project.  This group recommended option A+ as its preference.

WSDOT’s presentation was primarily of the A+ version of the highway replacement as it would be configured in the West Side design, that is, in our neighborhood.  They made these points during the program:

  • Traffic volumes after the 520 rebuild are expected to remain about the same as they are today. The primary benefit of the project is to reroute transit and HOV traffic, thus adding lanes to the interchange in Montlake.
  • The transit stops now provided on 520 at Montlake will be removed and relocated to the UW side of the cut.
  • The Portage Bay bridge will be 7 lanes wide, one of which will be reversible to serve the traffic from the east side.  A portion of the NOAA property will be displaced for this.
  • There will be an HOV lane through the middle of the interchange.
  • There will be a second bascule bridge over the cut and displacement of homes.
  • The draft EIS documents will be released soon and a preferred option will move forward into the final EIS process.  Property values are not addressed in these documents, but noise, air quality and visual blight are.  For mitigation of noise, walls are the only mitigation measure currently approved.
  • Storm water runoff will be collected into treatment facilities.
  • WSDOT is not working on Option M at this time.

The various plans and documents will be available for review on the WSDOT website, with hard copies available at libraries. The legislative work group report is also available online.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:00.

MCC March Meeting: Block Watch & Emergency Planning

February 16, 2010 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Erik Fraker and Diana Rall are planning our second annual Block Watch and Emergency Planning meeting. Their guest presenter is Tracy Connelly from the Seattle Office of Emergency Management.  As we have seen in the postings on the Montlake Forum, the need for this information is more important than ever.  If you have not yet formed a block watch, don’t miss this meeting.  If you have a block watch and want a refresher and to learn some new points, we hope to see you there.
