From WSDOT:
Four weekend closures of SR 520 planned during next five weeks
Drivers, take note: As construction season kicks into high gear, crews working on the SR 520 Bridge Replacement and HOV Program will close the floating bridge and much of its adjoining highway over four weekends in the coming month.
The first full closure is this weekend, beginning at 11 p.m. Friday, May 30 and continuing through 5 a.m. Monday, June 2. During this first closure, crews will be busy with several activities, including:
-
Pouring concrete for the new West Connection Bridge on Lake Washington.
-
Paving portions of westbound SR 520 from I-405 to the eastern shore of Lake Washington.
-
Installing temporary toll gantries near the SR 520 westbound on-ramp at 84th Avenue Northeast. This temporary tolling equipment will be in place until new permanent tolling equipment is operational near the new floating bridge in 2016.
Looking ahead, SR 520 is also scheduled to close the following weekends:
-
11 p.m. Friday, June 6 through 5 a.m. Monday, June 9
-
11 p.m. Friday, June 20 through 5 a.m. Monday, June 23
-
11 p.m. Friday, June 27 through 5 a.m. Monday, June 30
All four closures will extend from Montlake Boulevard in Seattle to I-405 in Bellevue. Please plan your weekend travel accordingly.
Don’t worry, University of Washington grads and families – SR 520 will remain open during the UW commencement ceremonies the weekend of June 14-15.
Additional single-lane overnight closures and westbound closures will also take place in June, so make sure to stay tuned to the SR 520 Orange Page for the latest information.
