What do the Barred Owls do as the sun falls below the treetops? How many young Barred Owls are growing up in the Arboretum this year? Do you know if Great Blue Herons are nesting near Union Bay this year? You can find the answers to some of these questions on Union Bay Watch and in other cases maybe you can solve the mysteries. See the photos on Union Bay Watch.

I sent this post to an Arizona friend who will be visiting here sometime this summer. Here’s his reply:
“I am more than just interested. I am slobbering in eagerness to get up to the Arboretum to see and hear the Barred Owls. When I have been in the eastern part of the country I’ve targeted that owl. I can’t tell you how many hours I’ve spent straining my senses in the gloom. And all the time they’ve been just across the street when we’ve come to Seattle. I will mark one of them when we come this year. It will be my 574th specie seen in the Lower 48. I keep thinking I might make 600, but that seems unlikely without a major Eastern trip, including some ocean birding.”
Thank you so much for Union Bay Watch. I’m not a birder, but I certainly enjoy your posts.
