Undeterred by the 95 degree temp on Sunday (July 19th), hearty Montlakers made their way to the party patio of our East-side Downtown businesses. Glam & Tonics Aveda threw open the bright yellow French doors to their lush secret garden, shared with FUEL and Coven. All three patio-linked businesses played hosts to the afternoon guests, with complimentary refreshments provided by the “other Eastsiders”– Mont’s, and Edmond Jones Investments, as well as our uptown, the Montlake Blvd Market.
With cookies, chips and cold drinks in hand, party-goers checked out the tables of artwork by Carol Woolford, Rachel McClellan, and Victoria Martinsen, and the wall-hung galleries of James Sutherland (in FUEL), and Robert Hayden (at Glam & Tonics). More than a few left with Anna Haworth’s henna designs ‘curing’ on their arms. Even a kiddie pool was ready for a quick foot bath by anyone feeling the heat down to their tootsies. All had the good fortune to be entertained by the music of The Jazz Hands, and by Clark Snyder, Moss, and Roger Westerholm. Lots of compliments and thanks as guests strolled out the gate.
True, it was a smaller crowd than we hoped we’d get for this new event. But the Montlake Unabridged team and our business hosts think this could be the start of something good. We’re looking to plan more gatherings on the secret patio in the future. If you have some ideas of what those might be like (and when), please let us know. You can even help us plan.
Look below for photos taken by our official Montlake Unabridged Photographer, Jonathan Phillips, and trusty associates, Cynthia Phillips and John Kemple.
