Long-time Montlake resident, Dr. Peter Manos, will read from Dear Babalu: Letters to an Advice Columnist at the Montlake Library from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 24th. Kirkus Reviews described his book as “reminiscent of Douglas Adams, A Prairie Home Companion, and Monty Python.” And Babalu is no mere “Dear Abby.” He’s not dealing with your “normal abnormalities” of life, but with facing an indifferent lifeguard when you complain of an octopus in the pool; accidentally spraying your face gold, then worrying about being taken for a false idol; having your husband fail to notice you’d replace yourself with a mannequin. This is heavy stuff! And it’s illustrated too!
In real life, Peter Manos is a Doctor of Psychiatry, having practiced for nearly 30 years here in Seattle. No doubt he’ll be sharing some of the ways his real life informed his out-of-the-ordinary fictional letters as well as the manner in which Babalu addresses them. We have yet to confirmed whether you may bring your own abnormalities to Babalu’s attention during Q & A for this evening gathering. If/when we hear, we’ll alert you. Until then, just prepare for an evening of good entertainment, the usual Q & A, refreshments, and possibly the opportunity to purchase your own copy of the book. Join us for an evening of cleverness.
This event co-sponsored by your Montlake Community Club and the Montlake Library through the Montlake Unabridged Arts, Music, & Authors series.
