Hey neighbors,
I just got in the mail a flyer from SDOT about some of their plans for 23rd and 24th Ave E between John and Roanoke. Basically they have no plans for between Boyer and Roanoke and some plans for south of Boyer. But, none of their plans are going to make crossing the street any easier or easier for homeowners to exit their own driveways on this arterial. Also, as some other arterials in the city have enjoyed reductions of speed, this one is not one of them…even though it is in an almost uniformly residential neighborhood. Lastly, it appears they are reneging on their promise to install a pedestrian- and/or cyclist-activated signal at 24th Ave E/ Interlaken Blvd E.
Whether or not you like any of these ideas, you probably have some thoughts on improvements for the street. Rarely, do we get a chance to have them obligated to hear what we say, this is one chance on Thursday, October 19, 5:30-7:00 pm drop-in at Montlake Community Center.

The previous meetings on this topic have been held by the Montlake Community Club and a design firm we hired, but this meeting–the October 19th meeting–is our first opportunity to see and give feedback on the city’s plans.

I find it very frustrating that they have these :listening sessions” and then just say and do whatever they want. For example, on the flier they say “Montlake residents want these changes” when the vast majority of the feedback and comments they have received have been opposed to lane diets, etc. They aren’t really listening. They are just going through the motions because the process says they have to.
