In-Person Kindergarten Program at a local childcare center

August 20, 2020 by crinklefuss Leave a Comment

From Seattle Learning Center:

Hi Neighbors!
We are a local childcare center here in Montlake and we are currently offering an in-person kindergarten and childcare program.  Children must be 5 years old to enroll in the kindergarten program and must be 2.5 years old for the preschool program. We have many families attend our school that live around the neighborhood and we would love to enroll more children local to Montlake. Please let us know if you have any questions!

A Kindergarten Program at SLC for Fall 2020

We are pleased to announce that we will be offering a kindergarten program at our Queen Anne and Montlake locations starting on September 8, 2020. As families look for learning options during this extraordinary time, we believe our kindergarten program offers an enriching combination of academic and play-based learning.

Full Year Schedule

Our kindergarten program will have a full-day schedule and will run in conjunction with our childcare program. The kindergarten students are provided care and instruction from 8am to 6pm, Monday through Friday. The school year will begin on September 8, 2020 and ends on August 31, 2021.

Cost of the Program

Tuition is $1,995 per month from September 2020 through August 2021. The maximum number of children in our kindergarten program will be six students in Montlake and four students in Queen Anne. There will be a dedicated kindergarten teacher for each location. Our small group size will allow our teachers to provide plenty of attention to our student’s learning. School supplies, meals and snacks are included in the tuition.

Kindergarten Program Administrator

Miss Stacey Popowitz will be the administrator of our kindergarten program. Miss Stacey is a certified K-5 teacher. She also holds a BA in elementary education and a masters in curriculum and instruction. She has been in the field of early childhood education for almost a decade.

Academic Support for your Kindergartener

Our kindergarten curriculum will focus on developing social and academic skills that the students will need to lead fulfilling lives. Our play-based and child-centered approach will foster critical-thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills. SLC will utilize the Common Core State Standards Initiative that Washington state has adopted. Each student’s progress in literacy, math, writing, and social-emotional learning will be assessed and documented. This information will be provided to parents on a weekly basis. Our program will focus on teaching our children to be self-directed and intrinsically motivated learners.

Kindergarten Curriculum

The kindergarten program at SLC will still be rooted in our play-based philosophy. We will use the Common Core standards as our guide in implementing our kindergarten curriculum and will include what students need to know and learn in kindergarten. Our experienced teachers will execute this curriculum using the principles of: a prepared environment, hands-on learning, following the child’s lead and interest, meaningful and practical learning, and honoring intrinsic motivation. The teachers will create an individualized plan of learning for each student.

Spending time outdoors and going for hikes and nature walks will also be a big part of our kindergarten curriculum. The children will be taken out daily for at least 2 hours for play time, walks, physical education and exercise.

COVID-19 Protocols
SLC is following the King County Public health guidelines for limiting the spread of COVID-19. This includes daily health screenings, frequent handwashing, regular disinfecting of toys and surfaces, and mandated masking.

Enrollment

Space in this program is very limited. We have six spots available at Montlake and four spots available at Queen Anne. Please contact Stacey Popowitz to learn more and to set up a tour.
