Celebrating 100 Years!
Celebrating Montlake’s Centennial Homes
We invite you to create a “Happy Birthday” yard sign to honor your historic home!
If you live in Montlake, you likely appreciate our neighborhood’s historic and charming older homes. Many of these homes were constructed between 1910 and 1930 alongside Montlake Elementary, which was finished in 1924, and the Montlake Bridge that was built in 1925. We thought it would be a fun way to honor our long-standing neighborhood to create “birthday” signs to post in our yards that celebrate and bring attention to our beautiful, historic neighborhood.
How to make your own sign*
Start with finding a picture of your house back when it was young. Fortunately, between 1936 and 1940, King County took photographs of most Seattle houses which can be ordered from the Washington State Archives. You can get yours by emailing PSBranchArchives@sos.wa.gov and include the house parcel number (look up here) and your street address. There is a $15 charge for the photo.
Once you have an electronic copy of your photo, create a Canva file for your house using this template. Upload your photo and make any date changes as needed. Download your personalized version using the PDF Print option.
Upload your Canva file to Signs on the Cheap or FedEx to have them print an 18” x 24” yard sign with metal support to post in your front yard for all to appreciate.
Once your sign is up, please share a picture of your posted yard sign at Montlake social accounts!
