Last Sunday night, Café Lago was hopping with Montlake neighbors, family, and friends enjoying the very first Montlake Holiday Light Fundraiser and what a wonderful evening it was! The event raised money to help the Montlake Community Club fund the festive white holiday lights you see throughout downtown Montlake and on the Montlake Boulevard Market. Something we want to continue year after year.
Café Lago generously donated 10% of their proceeds from the night while members of the Montlake Community Club board were on hand selling raffle tickets to those hoping to win one of four gift baskets filled with items donated by the Montlake businesses including Glam & Tonics, Jay’s Dry Cleaners, Montlake Boulevard Market, Fuel Coffee, Montlake Bicycle Shop, Mr. Johnson’s Antiques, Mont’s Market, Coven Salon, and Edward Jones Financial.
The Montlake Community Club would like to thank everyone who attended the event, the businesses and their amazing generosity, and those that donated their time, money, and effort to help make it a very enjoyable and successful evening. Photos provided by Jonathan Phillips.
Montlake Community residents are invited to attend a Photo with Santa event hosted by Windermere agents, Darcy LaBelle & Liz Suver on Sunday, December 13th from 11:45-1pm at the Graham Visitors Center in the Arboretum. Refreshments including hot cocoa, cider, coffee and tea will be served along with special treats.
RSVP to Darcy LaBelle 206-915-0916 or email darcy@windermere.com.
Please join us this Sunday, December 6th, between 5-9 pm for a special Montlake Holiday Light Fundraising Party at Cafe Lago. There will be free hot apple cider for the kids, a free glass of Prosecco for the adults, festive music, a raffle, and of course, fabulous food!
The holiday season is upon us and the Montlake Community Club wants our neighborhood, like many others, to have an inviting festive atmosphere, so the beautiful white holiday lights are once again up in downtown Montlake and on the Montlake Boulevard Market. Cafe Lago has generously offered to sponsor this fundraising event and will contribute 10% of their proceeds for the night toward the cost of the lights.
Please call Cafe Lago at 206-329-8005 to make a reservation or go to CafeLago.com. Thank you for your support, we hope to see you there!
For those of us this year who have a few last minute holiday presents to pick out, Café Lago has added a simple yet delicious line-up of Pacific Northwest favorites to choose from in a mini pop-up.
Green Italian Plum Jam ($20): Ayak Gordon’s jam made from fruit from Yakima.
Taki’s Organic English Walnuts ($8 lb): harvested in 2014.
Café Lago Panforte ($30): a 24 year old tradition of “strong bread” resembling a fruit pie, as featured in Seattle Magazine.
Not only does the Café boast a wood fire oven, but also a classy bar located on the side of the restaurant. Soft, white light flows from the windows, creating a perfect holiday ambiance throughout. The featured items above are sure not to disappoint, especially when accompanied by an evening at Café Lago.
Upcoming Festivities
Polenta Night: To engage people and create excitement around food, the Café is creating a special night out of something simple, as creator and polenta queen Arianna Garella says. [We’re] creating meals that have a lot of love and time that go into them without it being a pretentious thing, Garella says. Come join the restaurant and order yourself a plate of American grits on a cold evening night.

Kids Cooking Class: Starting on January 14, Montlake Elementary fourth and fifth graders join the restaurant to learn about the craft of cooking two days per week.

If you’ve been through downtown Montlake lately you’ve likely notice something different this holiday season, and no I don’t mean even more traffic than usual. For the very first time, the Montlake businesses have been decorated in a coordinated effort by the Montlake Community Club to help support our local merchants and bring a little more holiday cheer to our neighborhood.
The roof lines and tree trunks in downtown Montlake and the roof of the Montlake Boulevard Market have been adorned with energy efficient white LED lights that were installed by a professional holiday lighting company who will also remove them after the first of the year.
“This is absolutely wonderful, a big thanks to the Montlake Community Club” said one group of holiday shoppers.
The Montlake Community Club would like this to become an annual holiday tradition, something that can be improved each and every year but they need your help to make it happen. If you enjoy the holiday lights, please consider making a donation. Any donation, large or small, is very much needed and appreciated. Donations can be made by clicking on the DONATE button (right side of this page) and donating via credit card, PayPal, or check or by going to the “Donate” section under the “Community Club” menu at the top of this website.

Allen Murray, our esteemed Edward Jones financial advisor, is once again supporting Toys For Tots by using his office in Montlake as a drop-off location for this year’s toy drive.
Residents can help needy children in the area by bringing a new, unwrapped toy to the Montlake Edward Jones office located at 2304 24th Ave E during regular business hours. If you are unable to drop off your donation, they are happy to pick it up, just call (206) 322-9018. All donations must be received by December 12th at 5:00 pm.
“With the holiday season upon us, now is a great time to remember the less fortunate in our community”.
After hearing reports of activity in Montlake playfield last night, we investigated this afternoon and found the lone tree near the Bill Dawson trail had once again been sprinkled with holiday cheer. This year it appears the elves may have had some assistance or a taller ladder as a golden star rests at the top of the tree.
Happy Holidays!
