Zoning Letter

The City of Seattle’s One Seattle Plan will significantly change Montlake,
bringing 4-5 story unaffordable buildings to the neighborhood and
reducing setbacks while failing to address affordability and accessibility.

This decision is happening fast—with a key City Council vote on zoning
boundaries on MAY 7!

Your voice matters! Send your message today!

Email Council Member Joy Hollingsworth and all City Council members to demand a better zoning plan. See below for a sample letter.

Dear Council Member Hollingsworth,

I understand the importance of increasing Seattle’s housing supply to accommodate growth. As a resident voter, I urge you to amend the One Seattle Plan. The current proposal centers a disproportionately large amount of density around a busy arterial road, and fails to place density near our transit hub or the community playfield, while needlessly reducing the setbacks that protect trees and green space for all residential lots.

I urge you to amend the One Seattle plan so that Seattle’s zoning and development standards do not exceed the requirements of Washington State’s Model Code, which provide growth balanced with livability and good urban design. The city’s current proposal rejects responsive planning in favor of single-mindedly maximizing supply, a strategy that has repeatedly failed to provide affordability whenever it has been tried.

Please reject the current plan and join us in demanding policies that promote thoughtful upzoning and
distribution of development that allows for a broader population to afford to live here in Montlake.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

[your name] [your address, if desired]
