Homeless Camping Approved In Seattle Parks?

On Friday, October 14th at 9:30am, the Seattle City Council is meeting to consider the ordinance that would permit camping on 167 miles of sidewalks and nearly 5,200 acres of Seattle parks and greenbelts. King5 and Seattle Times have shared maps prepared by the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) and Seattle Parks and Recreation that present the parks and sidewalks that could be used by homeless campers if the ordinance is approved.

Many parks in Seattle would be approved locations, such as Greenlake, Discovery and Lincoln Park. Approved locations in and around Montlake include:

  • Arboretum
  • Montlake Park
  • East Montlake Park
  • West Montlake Park (Sidewalks)
  • Marsh Island
  • Foster Island
  • Interlaken

If you have feedback, questions, or concerns about this proposal, contact the Seattle City Council & Mayor Murray (contact information below) before the vote on Friday, October 14th.

Additionally, an online petition opposing this ordinance was created on October 9th.

Watercolor Rendering of Montlake Business District Project

Studio KPG continues to work with the Montlake Community Club on the business development project (if you’ve missed what this is about, click here). Studio KPG has completed their analysis of the comments from the community meeting held at the Community Center on July 26.  There was overwhelming approval for moving forward with the changes proposed for the business district which included adopting a road diet (fewer traffic lanes), adding street parking and more signage and lighting to make the area safer for pedestrians, and making our business district a destination for visitors to the neighborhood as well as Montlakers.

The watercolor  below from Studio KPG shows how the business district would look once the changes are made.

Montlakers can look forward to another meeting in November for the community’s input on the updated plans.

The MCC  will also be forming a public arts committee to organize the addition of public art in our business district.  The committee will establish guidelines and location sites and manage the acquisition process.  Keep reading the Montlake Flyer for updates on these exciting changes for our neighborhood.

Happening Now +80 Yard Sale Locations in Montlake!

250x250Montlake’s annual neighborhood yard sale is going on now and ends at 3pm. Over 80 Montlake residents have signed up for the Montlake Community Club’s Yard Sale.

Don’t know where we are? Montlake is a Seattle neighborhood between Capitol Hill and the U District. It’s easily accessed from both I5 and SR 520.

Yard Sale Interactive Map Is Live

yard-sale-2016-mapAn interactive map showing yard sale locations is now posted on Montlake.net. Check out the map to view addresses, item lists, and in some cases, photos. The yard sale is this Saturday, October 1, from 9 am to 3 pm.

Over 80 Montlake residents have signed up for the Montlake Community Club’s Yard Sale. Help your neighbors out by spreading the word to your friends and on Facebook. It’s quick and easy to send a link to the map.

Some of the great items we’ve seen posted: Louis Vuitton handbag, two-person kayak, green Ikea Stockholm sofa, Crate & Barrel dressers, West Elm dining table, Tumi rolling luggage, Patagonia jackets, model trains, lots of kid clothes and gear (American girl dolls, cribs), Pottery Barn entryway locker, jewelry by a local designer, electric skateboard, mountain bikes, and lots and lots of vintage furniture.

Pub Montlake will be open for businesses – stop by for lunch during the sale (see what else they have planned here). Montlake Bicycle Shop is hosting a sale with clearance 2016 bikes.

And Montlake Boulevard Market will also have FREE drip coffee and hot chocolate and $1 off made to order sandwiches.

Fur Shear Fun – Seattle Humane Society, Coven Salon and Glam & Tonics Event – Aug 21st

Montlake’s Glam & Tonics and Coven Salon are joining with Seattle Humane Society on August 21st to raise funds for Seattle Humane Society. MaxMobile, the Humane Society’s mobile adoption van, will be present for those interested in opening their home to a new family pet. In addition to gift card & gift bag raffles with items donated by Whole Foods, Aveda, Bumble and Bumble, all haircut proceeds will be donated to the Humane Society.
