Step Outside with a Summer Camp!

March 3, 2014 by UW Botanic Gardens Leave a Comment

summercampSummer camp at the Washington Park Arboretum is bounding into its fourth year with more weeks offered and new programs. Come join us for a week (or more!) of fun and educational adventures in our 230 acre outdoor classroom located in the heart of Seattle.  Our day-camp curriculums are designed in support of our mission:  to promote environmental conservation through education and recreation.  To achieve this we focus on hands-on exploration, play and experiential learning.  Depending on the weekly theme, campers may become ethnobotanists, artists, urban farmers or field biologists all while learning about the importance of teamwork and sustainability.

Camps are available for 1st-6th graders, and include weeks on insects, wetlands, art, and farming. Click here for more information.

New this year! Fiddleheads Preschool Summer Camp! A half-day, week-long adventure for preschoolers age 4, 5 and 6 year olds entering kindergarten.

Camp sizes are limited and space fills up quickly, so register today!
You can register online or you can call 206-685-8033.
There is also a 15% discount for UW employees and Arboretum Foundation Members.summercamp2

Our new Winter/Spring 2014 class offerings are posted! We have cool classes on a variety of topics all winter and spring. Want to try out watercolor or a drawing class? Or are you curious about plant identification, foraging for your food,  or becoming a beekeeper? There is a series of free Master Gardener-led talks as well and tours to a trillium garden and the exclusive Elisabeth C. Miller Botanical Garden.  We have all these and more in our new catalog! Take a look and find something new and unusual for the new year.

We also have gift certificates available in any denomination, to be picked up or emailed. Just call 206-685-8033 and we will get you set up!

We also have a new Fiddleheads Parent/Child Class Series up for January-April.

Join us for a class (or six or twelve!) this winter of nature connection activities and outdoor play. Preschoolers and their caregivers will explore the Washington Park Arboretum using their senses. Every week’s class will be based around a different learning theme. We will learn about the theme of the week through hands-on activities, hiking outdoors, games, stories and art projects, but mostly we will explore and let the natural curiosity of the young ones direct our adventures.

Individual classes are $18/class for 1 adult and 1 child, and when you sign up for 6 or more you get a discount! Themes are all new and include dinosaurs, science, sounds and smells of the forest, turtles, ice and snow.

More information and online registration.
