Join the Soest Garden gardener Riz Reyes for this hands-on workshop on fall perennial garden care. Walk the extensively planted beds and learn about which plants to cut back now, and which ones to leave until spring. Learn how to divide and transplant specific types of plants, and some tricks and techniques for maintenance practices that create visual appeal for the dormant season. Riz will also share his favorite “tried and true” selections for fall interest. Participants should bring their own hand-pruners, gloves, and hori-hori soil knife, and dress for the weather.

Ghosts and Goblins, Gear Up! The Montlake Halloween Party’s coming!
Parents and Friends of the Montlake Coop, mark your calendars for this upcoming Spooktacular party. This annual event will be held on Saturday morning, October 27th, from 10am to noon in the Montlake Community Center’s Tudor Room. Things to expect include a Ghost Hunt, playdough table, cookie decorating table and snack area.
The cost for non Coop members (or those who have forgotten to pay dues in awhile) is $3 per child, or $5 per family. We really look forward to this being an exciting event for our kindergarten and unders, but older siblings are totally welcome as well. Please RSVP to Bridget Guerrero at: mailto:guerrerosonthemove%40yahoo.com so we can get an idea of how many ghastly treats to purchase! See you there!
Dear Neighbors,
This year, thanks to your hard work in past years, Gateway Parks were maintained by 3 community work parties and individual weeding and watering attention by myself during the summer months. People stroll through the parks regularly, and read the Kiosk map for walking information. Montlake Community Club, in its 2013 -2014 budget, approved mulch delivery and distribution, and plant purchases for the parks. The parks will be the recipient of Prep’s Earth Days spring cleanup next year, and will be on the 2014 MCC garden tour.
Please join me for a fall work party, a couple of hours of planting crocus bulbs and weeding. This will bring bright color to our parks in the spring and prepare the grounds for winter. Bring a shovel, weeders, and gloves. Refreshments will be provided. We will meet at East Gateway Park.
Looking forward to seeing you there.

Facilitator for the Maintenance of MCC’s Gateway Parks
