Join Us to Run the New Arboretum Loop!

November 16, 2017 by ssandall 1 Comment

Greetings,

Fall weather is here and the Montlake Community Club’s 5K Turkey Trot & Kids Run is a week away. This year the Thanksgiving morning course will allow Turkey Trotters a sneak preview of the new Arboretum Loop Trail which is scheduled to officially open in March. There’s still time to register. All proceeds benefit the University District Food Bank. Sign up here!

New Arboretum Loop Trail

This multi-use trail opens up previously inaccessible parts of the Arboretum and allows a close up view of the newly restored Arboretum creek and wetlands.  Last year, the Montlake Turkey Trot was the 1st running race ever to take place in the Arboretum and now we will be the first to use the new trail!  I have ran the route myself a few times and it is spectacular.  I can’t think of a better way to start out my Thanksgiving morning.
Don’t delay-sign up now and join us! Click These Links to View Race Routes:

5K
1 Mile Kids Run
.6 Mile Little Kids Run (2 to 4 year olds)

-Sharsti Sandall, MCC President

Tents Needed for Turkey Trot

November 13, 2017 by MontlakeFlyer Leave a Comment

Looking to support the 2nd annual Montlake 5K Turkey Trot but aren’t able to volunteer or run?  How about letting us borrow your pop up tent/shelter instead?

While it’s too far out to predict, it’s likely, or at least 50-50 that we will have some rain again.  At least this year the majority of the course will take place on the new Arboretum Loop Trail so there will be less puddles!  Nevertheless, we would like to increase the number of shelter options for participants and volunteers before and after the run.  So, if you have a tent we could borrow, please email turkeytrot@montlake.net and we will arrange for pick-up and drop-off.

Thank you,

The Montlake Community Club

Light Up the Night

November 3, 2017 by MontlakeFlyer 1 Comment

The holiday season (and longer nights) are upon us, and the Montlake Community Club has filled the trees and topped the shops lining the Montlake Business District with white lights – helping to create an inviting and festive atmosphere for our downtown shopping district!

To help underwrite the installation costs, Cafe Lago has once again offered to host our annual fundraiser:

Light Up The Night at Cafe Lago
Sunday, December 3rd
5 pm to 9 pm

Please join us for a wonderful evening of great food and wine, incredible raffle and silent auction items (donated by our fabulous Montlake shops and businesses), and a festive community gathering. As a special thank you, Cafe Lago will be serving a complimentary glass of Prosecco and hot cider, and is graciously donating 10% of the evening’s proceeds to help underwrite the lights.

For reservations, please call Cafe Lago at 206-329-8005, or visit cafelago.com.

Purr Montlake Opens

October 20, 2017 by Arthur Lee Jacobson 1 Comment

Wednesday October 4th, at 6:00 p.m. saw Purr’s opening in Montlake, and I have now visited twice. The site of the former Jilly’s East, Grady’s, Traveller’s Montlake, Montlake Alehouse and Pub Montlake, is now Purr. My most recent visit was this week and a friend and I ordered the nachos with added beef. I preferred this to my first nacho order without beef on opening night. The beef, perfectly cooked, rich flavored and generous, plus the condiments, made for a tasty meal. The happy hour bill for the nachos and two beers came to only $17.80. The manager, Jason, is interested in feedback, and desires to please locals.

The color theme is black and dark red. On opening night, the place was standing room only, very loud, joyous and celebratory. Men outnumbered women solidly; though the owner is a woman (Barbie Roberts; pictured), all the employees seen were men. Extremely few Montlakers were present at the opening; it looked like a party of friends and fans from the prior location of the business: Capitol Hill. The food menu lists basic pub fare such as burgers, nachos, fries. The prices strike me as fair. If you prefer ordinary food and prices to fancier expensive food, I suggest you try out a sample here at 5:00 some day. Happy Hour is stated to go from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Monday through Friday. http://www.purrseattle.com

SDOT Wants to Tell Us What They are Planning for 23rd/24th

October 9, 2017 by Tracy 2 Comments

Hey neighbors,

I just got in the mail a flyer from SDOT about some of their plans for 23rd and 24th Ave E between John and Roanoke. Basically they have no plans for between Boyer and Roanoke and some plans for south of Boyer. But, none of their plans are going to make crossing the street any easier or easier for homeowners to exit their own driveways on this arterial. Also, as some other arterials in the city have enjoyed reductions of speed, this one is not one of them…even though it is in an almost uniformly residential neighborhood. Lastly, it appears they are reneging on their promise to install a pedestrian- and/or cyclist-activated signal at 24th Ave E/ Interlaken Blvd E.

Whether or not you like any of these ideas, you probably have some thoughts on improvements for the street. Rarely, do we get a chance to have them obligated to hear what we say, this is one chance on Thursday, October 19, 5:30-7:00 pm drop-in at Montlake Community Center.

View SDOT’s proposals here: http://www.seattle.gov/Transportation/23rdVisionZero.htm
