Signals Crossed

March 31, 2018 by Larry Hubbell Leave a Comment

This Great Blue Heron certainly got his signals crossed this week. Read more about avian body language in this week’s post on:

Have a great day on Union Bay…where nature lives in the city!

ps: If you happen to spot the Pileated Woodpeckers anywhere around Montlake, during the next couple of weeks, I would certainly love a high-speed email at:

Thank you! It feels like they have been playing hard to get this year.

Birding With Barry | Union Bay Watch

May 23, 2015 by Larry Hubbell Leave a Comment

354A0901Last weekend I was lucky enough to visit the Nisqually Wildlife Refuge with Barry Levine, a local Seattle Master Birder. I was part of Barry’s Seattle Audubon, Intermediate Birding class. One of the things Barry taught us was to listen for the “liquid” sounds of the swallows. Yesterday it was very satisfying, while watching the eaglets in the nest near Beaver Lodge Sanctuary, to hear and recognize the sound of a cloud of tree swallows feasting overhead. To learn more about Barry’s class please visit:
