Gateway Parks Renovation Project
We have applied for a Department of Neighborhoods (DoN) grant of $15,000 to finish renovation of the park with a gravel path and northwest native plantings. We will know by mid-March if we have been successful.
DoN required that the grant be matched by volunteer hours, credited at $20/hr, and dollar contributions before the application can be accepted. We thank all who pledged the work hours and money that actually exceeded the amount required. DoN emphasized wide community support for the project was essential, and that was amply demonstrated with 106 pledges amounting to 606 volunteer hours worth $12,120, in-kind contributions of goods and services amounting to $4,785, and $2120 in monetary pledges for a grand total of $19,025. We would like to particularly thank the Montlake Community Club for their dollar pledge and Steve Worthy for donating 44 hours design time from his Landscape Architect Company.
The five members of the Steering Committee put in many hours to make this all come together. The grant is called “Small and Simple”; we found that it may have been small but it certainly wasn’t simple.
If you have any questions send an email to GatewayParks@Montlake.net or call 206-568-8382.
Thanks from your Gateway Parks Steering Committee:

Town Hall Meeting with Mike McGinn
Mayor McGinn is coming to University Heights, 5031 University Way NE, Seattle on Tuesday, January 25 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. This will be a Town Hall style meeting. People will be invited to come and ask questions.
For the hour before the Q & A begins, City Departments and community organizations are invited to staff tables in the hall to respond to people coming to the event.
All of you are invited to come and sit at a table, distribute info you may have, answer questions and recruit members if that’s appropriate.
From Mayor’s Office staff, here is some additional info on set up, etc.
- We expect an audience of 100-120 people.
- Tables will just be starting to be unfolded and put in position at 4:30 on the 25th so participants should plan on arriving a little after 4:30.
- We are going to be in a compact space. There is only room for 7 total Community Group tables. If more than 7 groups show up, folks will need to share table space. Space will be on a first come, first served basis.

Open House at City Hall
Mike McGinn, Mayor
City of Seattle
Greetings,
I would like to invite you to our Open House at City Hall. I hope you will join me, my staff, the City Council and the city departments to celebrate our ongoing commitment to openness, citizen engagement and the spirit of service. On Saturday, January 29, 2011, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., we will highlight our 2011 plans for the Engage Seattle initiative and the Cities of Service plan. This is an opportunity for you to meet and speak directly with the public servants who work for you every day.
Staff and volunteers will conduct public tours of the Mayor’s Office. We will have performances by local cultural organizations in the public spaces of City Hall and many city departments and the City Council will have outreach displays at the event, along with information about city services.
Please let us know if you plan to attend with an RSVP at this website so we can get an accurate count of how many people will attend.
We look forward to seeing you, your friends and family that day.
Sincerely,
Mike McGinn
Mayor

Help Improve the Department of Planning and Development’s Website
Want to improve the usability of the website for the City of Seattle’s Department of Planning and Development? So do we — and we need your help to do it.
DPD is looking for people who haven’t had much experience with the department or the website, but who might expect to be visiting us in the future. Are you a first time home or business owner in Seattle? An architect or contractor who is new to doing business in Seattle? A new resident who is interested in Seattle’s city planning? You’d be perfect.
If you’re interested in helping evaluate the usability and content of our web site, send an email to dpdfeedback@seattle.gov. We will send you a short survey to help place you in a session. Sessions will be held at City of Seattle’s offices in downtown Seattle between 1/31 and 2/8/2011 and last no more than 1.5 hours. There is no compensation for your participation, but we can validate your parking if you need to drive to the session.
Thank you in advance for your participation.
