Free Race T-Shirts for Turkey Trot Volunteers

October 23, 2017 by MontlakeFlyer Leave a Comment

Help organize the 2nd annual Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning. Volunteering is a terrific way to meet Montlake neighbors, and help the University District Food Bank.
Last year, the Montlake 5K Turkey Trot & Kids Fun Run raised $10,000 for the Food Bank– we hope to more than double our donation this year!
  • All volunteers will receive a free Turkey Trot t-shirt!
  • As a special thanks to Turkey Trot volunteers, everyone who signs up to help with the race prior to Oct. 31 will receive a promo code valid for a 25% discount on race registration— for yourself (if volunteer schedule allows) and up to 4 friends and family members.

Opportunities abound! There are many ways to help: choose one or more shifts either on Thanksgiving morning (race day) or prior to the event. Assist with course signs and cones, water stations, course monitoring, garbage collection, or help with the Kids Fun Run.

This is a great opportunity for students who need service hours.

Gateway Parks Renovation Project

January 28, 2011 by Patricia Shannon-Garvey Leave a Comment

We have applied for a Department of Neighborhoods (DoN) grant of $15,000 to finish renovation of the park with a gravel path and northwest native plantings.  We will know by mid-March if we have been successful.

DoN required that the grant be matched by volunteer hours, credited at $20/hr, and dollar contributions before the application can be accepted. We thank all who pledged the work hours and money that actually exceeded the amount required.  DoN emphasized wide community support for the project was essential, and that was amply demonstrated with 106 pledges amounting to 606 volunteer hours worth $12,120, in-kind contributions of goods and services amounting to $4,785, and $2120 in monetary pledges for a grand total of $19,025.  We would like to particularly thank the Montlake Community Club for their dollar pledge and Steve Worthy for donating 44 hours design time from his Landscape Architect Company.

The five members of the Steering Committee put in many hours to make this all come together. The grant is called “Small and Simple”; we found that it may have been small but it certainly wasn’t simple.

If you have any questions send an email to GatewayParks@Montlake.net or call 206-568-8382.

Thanks from your Gateway Parks Steering Committee:
Greg Ahmann
Anita Bowers
Janice Rabkin
Patricia Shannon-Garvey (Chair)
Colin Shannon-Garveyy

Gateway Parks Autumn Work Party

August 14, 2010 by webmaster 1 Comment

MONTLAKE GARDENERS

GATEWAY PARKS AUTUMN WORK PARTY

Sunday,
September 19, 2010

24th
Avenue East & Boyer Avenue East.

NOON to 3:00 P.M.

Bring gloves, weeding tools, rakes, clippers, and lots of energy.

Refreshments will be provided.

The Montlake Community Club owns these parks and they must have volunteer maintenance to keep them as green spaces for the Montlake community. Extensive renovation efforts by volunteers has reclaimed them from an unsightly mess of brambles and weeds.

The S.E. corner park has seen much progress this year. Six beds of northwest natives have been planted, and plans are in work for a traversing path and additional plantings of northwest natives.

We will be weeding, raking, and cleaning both parks to prepare them for fall.

We need your help

Thank You in advance for volunteering.

Please e-mail if you can come, even for just a short time: GatewayParks@Montlake.net
