It is always wonderful to come across an old friend after an extended absence. Sometimes, we have to hold our tongues when we notice that time has not been exactly friendly. I am thankful my friends provide me the same courtesy.

ps: I forgot to include cedar waxwings as one of the three species which eats elderberries, but they do eat them and they are a perfectly valid answer.

This photo does not truly represent this week’s post, plus it is not properly centered. Part of the bird isn’t even shown. In spite of all of that it is the photo which I found most compelling and I am not even sure why. Maybe it is the abnormal posture, or her shadow on the bark or the contrast between the bird and the bark or possibly the limited amount of sunlight. I don’t know. In any case, I hope you will follow the link below to see how Chip is stepping up and taking the time to teach his offspring.
