A Feathered Friend

September 4, 2017 by Larry Hubbell Leave a Comment

It is always wonderful to come across an old friend after an extended absence. Sometimes, we have to hold our tongues when we notice that time has not been exactly friendly. I am thankful my friends provide me the same courtesy.

Since pileated woodpeckers and other avian species do not read my posts I feel a bit more free to explore the changes in my feathered friends. Read the results in this week’s post on:

Elderberry Whine

June 24, 2017 by Larry Hubbell Leave a Comment

Can you name three local species of birds which eat elderberries? You will be able to if you read this week’s post on:

Union Bay Watch

Larry

ps: I forgot to include cedar waxwings as one of the three species which eats elderberries, but they do eat them and they are a perfectly valid answer.

Nature’s Delight

January 15, 2017 by Larry Hubbell Leave a Comment

eb2r4528Sometimes it feels like nature is teasing me. Showing me birds from a distance and then hiding them when I try to get close – until suddenly the reverse happens. See more on:

Teachable Moments

July 5, 2016 by Larry Hubbell 1 Comment

This photo does not truly represent this week’s post, plus it is not properly centered. Part of the bird isn’t even shown. In spite of all of that it is the photo which I found most compelling and I am not even sure why. Maybe it is the abnormal posture, or her shadow on the bark or the contrast between the bird and the bark or possibly the limited amount of sunlight. I don’t know. In any case, I hope you will follow the link below to see how Chip is stepping up and taking the time to teach his offspring.
