August 1, 2017 Is This Year’s National Night Out
If you are a Block Watch Captain you are probably already planning your event. If your street/immediate neighborhood doesn’t have a Block Watch Captain – please volunteer to take on this role. Then invite your neighbors to join you for a night out on Tuesday, August 1.
To Organize Your Night Out Event:
- Register to have your street closed from 6-10 PM on August 1 go to:
http://www.seattle.gov/police/community-policing/night-out
You can also use this same link to put your event on the map and download materials about National Night Out (NNO) to share with your neighbors.
- And for current captains and new captains, if you haven’t already, please register as a Block Watch Captain via this link:
http://seattleemergencyhubs.org/contact-us/block-watch-group-entry-form/
(Sorry about all these links.)
National Night Out is a great time to socialize with your long time neighbors and meet your new neighbors. If you want to apply for financial support for your neighborhood picnic, please email your request to Carol Cordy at carolcordymd@gmail.com and the Montlake Community Club can reimburse you up to $75.00.
Knowing your neighbors makes your neighborhood safer. The first National Night Out in 1984 involved 2.5 million neighbors in 400 communities. Last year NNO involved 38 million in 1600 communities. If you want to learn more about the history of NNO go to https://natw.org/
April 6th – SR 520 Construction Noise Meeting
There is another important process & deadline upon us this week with regards to the Montlake Phase of SR 520 Construction. WSDOT has applied for a Noise Variance during construction (click to review application) and they will be holding the only public meeting this Thursday, April 6th. You may read the bulletin here: http://web6.seattle.gov/DPD/ LUIB/Notice.aspx?BID=1222&NID= 24653
Many neighbors are concerned about this and are opposing any noise variance allowing for construction prior to 8 AM and later than 7 PM Monday through Friday.
Please take advantage of the public comment period which ends Thursday, April 6th Thursday, April 20th by sending an email with your comments concerning construction noise and hours of operations here:
- prc@seattle.gov
Reference Project # 3027364 - Or By Mail: SDCI, PRC, P.O. Box 34019, Seattle, WA 98124-4019
Finally, please attend the ONLY PUBLIC MEETING on the noise variance issue:
Thursday, April 6th
4:00 to 6:30 PM
St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church
If you prefer to view WSDOT’s noise variance docs as PDFs rather than DOCX files, go to this Dropbox folder.
You can see all WSDOT’s material and comments already filed here. (Type in 3027364 for the project number)

Little Lago Quietly Opens
While yesterday’s opening of Portage Bay’s Little Lago may have been quiet, inside was anything but! Laughter & chatter filled the space when owner Carla Leonardi fired up the oven and opened Little Lago’s doors to those who have been anxiously following Little Lago on Instagram or Facebook.
A simple photo was posted announcing the soft opening as final details will be completed in the coming weeks (deli & gelato).
Yours truly stopped by and enjoyed an absolutely perfect pizza at the beautiful wood bar while Carla tossed pizza dough and promised to teach my little ones her secrets.
In addition to our tasty pizza, I picked up a bottle of one of my favorite white wines from the wine wall.
I won’t give away all the details, do yourself a favor and stop by this little gem and order up a pizza or calzone while you peruse the shelves.
